Event Details

Do you want to learn how to radically improve the quality of your C# code? Do you want to learn how to use the test-driven development features in Visual Studio 2010?  Do you want to learn how to use TDD to support rapid refactoring?   Then "Agile Software Development in VS2010: Test-Driven Development" is for you!

Join us for an information packed day during which we will explore many of the testing features in VS2010.  We will explore high-level concepts and then walk through detailed examples and demonstrations in VS2010.  You will write real code and create real tests during this course!  You will leave this course with a good understanding of how to use the testing features in VS2010 to accelerate your development and improve the quality of your code.

How much does the course cost?  It costs whatever you want it to cost!  This is a Pay-What-You-Can course.  You pay what you can to attend the course.  At the end of the course the instructor will hand out an envelope to every participant and the participant will pay what they can. The requested contribution is $200-$0 (please pay at mid range or higher if possible).

What is a Pay-What-You-Can course and why is it important now?  We are in the middle of a severe economic downturn which has reduced training budgets and increased the need for people to learn new skills.  Microsoft is transitioning from VS2008 to VS2010 and VS2010 contains significant new features which greatly simplify testing.  The goal of this Pay-What-You-Can course is to introduce you to TDD using the new features in VS2010.

Please note that the Pay-What-You-Can option applies only to people who are paying out of their own pockets and are not sponsored by an employer or corporation.  If you want to pay for this course out of your standard corporate training budget the cost is $499.

To keep costs down, Pay-What-You-Can courses are held at low cost or no cost locations.  For this course, Microsoft is generously donating a room at the Microsoft Technology Center in Waltham.  To keep costs low, participants are asked to bring a laptop with a copy of VS2010 installed.  Note that Visual Studio 2010 Professional, Premium, or Ultimate is needed for this course.  A free trial license is available from Microsoft's website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/bb984878.aspx

Everyone who signs up for this course will be added to a discussion group prior to the start of the course.  You will be expected to share your interests and goals prior to the class.  After the course, the discussion group will be used to support continued growth and learning.

At the end of the course the instructor will hand out an envelope to every participant and the participant will pay what they can. The requested contribution is $200-$0 (please pay at mid range or higher if possible).

About the instructor: Michael de la Maza holds a PhD in Computer Science from MIT and was VP of Corporate Strategy at Softricity (acquired by Microsoft in 2006).  He is the co-leader of the F# User Group (www.fsug.org) and has spoken extensively at Microsoft user groups and community events.  Michael is an independent agile consultant and counts EMC, Intuit, and Verizon among his clients.
